Tom Muehlenbeck Center Day Pass and Membership Prices
You can walk into the Tom Muehlenbeck Center without a membership and pay a daily fee, or buy a monthly or annual pass that also works at Plano's other recreation centers and pools. Prices depend on age and on whether you live in Plano, work in Plano or are connected to Plano ISD, or live elsewhere.
Daily admission (day pass)
Ages 16 and upPer visit
- Plano resident
- $7
- Non-resident
- $10
Ages 3 to 15Per visit
- Plano resident
- $4
- Non-resident
- $6
Children 2 and younger get in free but must be supervised by an adult. The day fee covers the pools, gym, track, weight room and game room for that visit. Everyone entering the pool area pays, swimmers or not, so a parent who only watches from the deck still needs admission or a membership card.
Annual memberships
An annual pass is paid in one payment (card, cash or check), is non-refundable and non-transferable, and works at every Plano recreation center and city pool except that Sam Johnson has its own separate pass.
| Membership | Plano resident | PISD / Work in Plano | Non-resident |
|---|---|---|---|
| Youth (3–15) | $105 | $131 | $175 |
| Adult (16–59) | $171 | $215 | $285 |
| Senior (60+) | $131 | $164 | $219 |
| Family | $439 | $559 | $749 |
The city defines a family as a parent or guardian plus legal dependents living in the same household. Renewing an individual or family annual pass within 30 days of expiration earns a 10 percent loyalty discount; if someone is moving up an age group (youth to adult, adult to senior), that renewal has to be done in person to get the discount.
Month-to-month memberships
| Membership | Plano resident | PISD / Work in Plano | Non-resident |
|---|---|---|---|
| Youth (3–15) | $13 | $18 | $24 |
| Adult (16–59) | $22 | $25 | $33 |
| Senior (60+) | $17 | $22 | $29 |
| Family | $56 | $68 | $91 |
Monthly passes are charged automatically to a credit or debit card. To stop one, cancel in your Plano Recreation Online account, email the department, or call a center at least three business days before the renewal date. The pass stays valid through the end of the period you already paid for.
Short stays: a one-month user fee of $33 (all ages) is meant for guests in town temporarily or people trying the centers out. It is not a membership, so it is not refundable or transferable and does not carry membership extras such as PSA pickleball access.
Worked examples: when does a membership pay off?
We divided each pass price by the matching day pass to find the number of visits where the two cost the same. These are our calculations from the city's posted prices.
| Who | Pass | Day pass | Break-even |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resident adult, annual | $171 | $7 | 25 visits a year (about 1 every 2 weeks) |
| Resident adult, monthly | $22 | $7 | 4 visits in a month |
| Non-resident adult, annual | $285 | $10 | 29 visits a year |
| Non-resident adult, monthly | $33 | $10 | 4 visits in a month |
| Resident youth, annual | $105 | $4 | 27 visits a year |
A family example. Two resident adults and two kids aged 8 and 11 pay $7 + $7 + $4 + $4 = $22 per visit with day passes. The resident family monthly pass is $56, so it pays for itself on the third visit in a month. The resident family annual pass at $439 equals about 20 family visits, fewer than two a month, and it covers summer trips to Jack Carter Pool, where day admission is higher.
A lap swimmer example. A resident adult who swims three mornings a week would spend roughly $90 a month on day passes, versus $22 for a monthly membership or about $14 a month for the annual pass spread over the year.
Who qualifies for which rate
- Plano resident: proof of Plano residency is required at purchase.
- PISD / Work in Plano: a middle rate for people with a qualifying Plano ISD connection or proof of employment with a Plano company. The city says these must be bought in person.
- Non-resident: anyone else. No proof needed beyond ID.
- Health insurance programs: the city accepts Active & Fit, SilverSneakers, Silver & Fit, Renew Active and PRIME for eligible members. Bring the plan card and a valid ID, and confirm eligibility with your insurer first.
- Financial assistance: Plano runs a Financial Assistance Program for memberships and many classes, with online applications in English and Spanish. The program line is 972-941-7256.
What a membership covers
A standard pass gets you into Carpenter Park, Liberty, Oak Point and Tom Muehlenbeck recreation centers and their pools, Jack Carter Pool and the Plano Aquatic Center. Members show their card for the game room, gyms, courts, pools, track and weight area. Any regular membership (not the Sam Johnson pass or the one-month user fee) also allows pickleball at PSA, 6500 Preston Meadow Drive, during posted hours. Classes are priced separately and do not require a membership.
If you are 50 or older and mostly want Sam Johnson Recreation Center for Adults 50+, its own annual pass is $15 for residents and $25 for non-residents, but it works only there. See how the centers differ in our Plano recreation centers comparison.
